Diagnostic mammography- a boon for patients of breast cancer

Diagnostic mammography is a treatment which is usually recommended for the women who are suffering from breast cancer. There are some symptoms discussed below which depict that patient needs to undergo this treatment.

• When there is lump found under the arm or in the breast
• There may be changes found in skin like redness, thickening etc.
• When there is any area of breast found to be thickening suddenly.
• There may be frequent changes in nipple like retraction, erosion, itching etc.
• When a women has to face the problem regarding the size of the breast increasing frequently.
• It is also a matter of concern for a woman whose nipple gets discharged unexpectedly.

There is another situation under which doctor recommends such treatment for females who have been found with any abnormality on their screening mammogram. Besides all the above circumstances it is advisable for a woman following radiation therapy after lumpectomy for the first seven years to go for diagnostic mammography.

There is a specific procedure for this treatment as two standard breast images are taken as full size with the craniocaudal or CC which is like top-to-bottom picture. On the other hand other procedure involves the side-to-side view under mediolateral oblique or MLO.
